Summary
The aims of this courseware is to give the student an understanding of the basic principles of drug metabolism including routes of metabolism. The learning objectives are best defined by the course tutor but, after using the program, the student should know;

- where drug metabolism occurs
- why drug metabolism is important
- some of the major routes of metabolism including the principles of phase 1 and phase 2 metabolism

The program covers the basic principles of drug metabolism (where, why, how?) including the concept of phase 1 and 2 metabolism. Routes of metabolism are illustrated by animated examples and further information can be obtained about the enzyme and cofactor(s) involved as well as the actual reaction mechanism. For cytochrome P450, the catalytic cycle is also given as is he further metabolism of gluctathione conjugates.
There are short quizzes after each section and a longer intergrative quizz (based on the metabolism of aspirin) at the end. Students can skip over these quizzes if required. There is a map function to help the student find their place and a drug glossary defining the drugs (and some other terms) used.
