This package aims to enable students to recognise the common poisonous plants of Europe, state the major classes of toxic constituents, classify the type of poison on the basis of pharmacological action and suggest remedial action.
Contents
1. Plant and Fungal Toxins
This section introduces the student to the more common European poisonous plants and fungi, showing the structure of major classes of toxins and the mode of action of these toxins, where known. Symptoms of poisoning by these toxins are examined, together with the remedial action required to counteract these toxins.
2. Case Studies

Several cases are considered and the student is made aware of the potential role of the pharmacist as an advisor in cases of possible poisoning by plants and fungi.

3. Self-Assessment
This section provides an assessment of the student's ability to identify selected poisonous plants and fungi, their toxins and biological activities.
