5. The Nomenclature of Organic Compounds 5.3.1 Computer Confidence
98% of the study group had previously used a computer and 96.5% had previously used a mouse. Despite this, levels of computer use were very varied, as shown in figure 2 below with the largest number (33%) reporting that they used a computer less than once a month. Furthermore, although 98% had used a computer before, when asked how often they now use one 20% reported that they never do, just slightly higher than those who use one every day (19%). It is worth noting here that the students at two out of four of the centres involved in the study were actually in the first week of their first term, and all students were first years, so that their level of access and use of computers within their undergraduate course was still at an early stage.
