The package provides basic information about epilepsy. To benefit users with different interests, it covers a wide range of topics, from the possible causes of epilepsy, types of epileptic seizures to clinical treatment. Up-to-date information from recent publications is also included.

The package aims to enable the user to have a good understanding of epilepsy, its effect on the patient, its management and to have a working knowledge of the drugs used in its treatment.

Each activity within the package follow a similar structure:

First, a table of contents is displayed on the screen, in order to give users brief informatiion on what this activity covers and to help the user find topics of interest.

The user is then shown an introduction followed by a series of screens of detailed information. There is a large amount of information behind each screen, that can be accessed by clicking on the clickable objects provided.

Finally, each activity finishes with a summary.

Brief descriptions of some specialised terms used in this package can be accessed by simply clicking on the term. The references used in each activity are also given immediately under the content.

The Help Menu which shows briefly how to use this package can be pulled down from the Menu bar when it is needed. The table of contents can also be retrieved at any time by pulling down the File Menu from the Menu bar on the top of the screen.

Useful contact names and addresses of national (UK) epilepsy organisations are supplied in the package.


Hardware and Software Requirements

Windows Version
The package is supplied on a CD-ROM Installation Disc and can be installed to a local hard disc or network drive. The minimum requirement is a PC with 100MHz Pentium processor , 8Mb of RAM and a VGA monitor capable of displaying 16-bit color (65, 536 colors) at 640 x 480 resolution. The program is 32-bit and is compatible with Windows 95, 98 and NT.
Web Version

The package is supplied on a CD-ROM Installation Disc for installation to a web server. The software runs on PC clients only. The minimum requirement is a 200MHz Pentium processor with 32Mb of RAM and a Super VGA monitor capable of displaying 16-bit color (65,536 colors) at 800 x 600 resolution. The program is compatible with both Netscape Navigator 4.x and Internet Explorer 4 or better and requires Java and Javascript to be enabled on browsers.
