Programmed by : Sandra Buchanan This is a teaching package aimed at Undergraduate Pharmacy level. It covers the law and ethics in the following six areas: Medicines Act, Misuse of Drugs Act, Pharmacy Act and Code of Ethics, Poisons Act and Rules, The NHS and Miscellaneous Legislation.
The package is split into six areas:
Medicines Act This has six activities which cover the most important information in the Medicines Act, as it applies to pharmacy: retail sale, supply of medicinal products, advertising, labelling, the licensing system.Misuse of Drugs Act This has four activities: regulations for the dispensing of controlled drugs, supplying to addicts, recognising potential substances of misuse and dealing with forged prescriptions.Pharmacy Act and Code of Ethics This has three activities: looking at professional ethics, standards of good professional practice and ethical problems concerning advertising.Poisons Act and Rules This has one activity only which studies all aspects of the Poisons legislation, including sale, labelling and storage.The NHS This has five activities, which deal with the NHS as it concerns the pharmacist. The drug tariff, the administrative structure, terms of service, the drug testing scheme and dealing with complaints are explained.Miscellaneous Legislation There are six activities. These look at all other pieces of legislation that pharmacists may encounter in their working life. Health and Safety at Work, Alcohol and Spirit legislation, the Consumer Protection Act, regulations on the handling of hazardous substances, the Trade Descriptions Act, the Shops Act etc.
